Global Spa & Wellness Summit 2013 announced
The details of the 2013 Global Spa and Wellness Summit (GSWS) have been announced. The summit will be held in Jaipur, India, October 4-7.
India has been chosen as the location for the 2013 summit as a result of factors that include the country’s strong wellness tradition, with an ancient history of yoga, meditation and Ayurveda and the Indian government’s support of the spa and wellness sector.
“India has traditions such as Ayurveda and yoga that makes it’s very well positioned to be a leader within wellness and wellness tourism,” Global Spa & Wellness Summit board member Susie Ellis said of the decision to meet in India in 2013.
Ellis added that: “The Indian government has also targeted wellness and wellness tourism as something they want to promote and encourage.” Now a £6.9billion industry, figures from PriceWaterhouseCoopers show that the Indian wellness industry grew by 20% between 2010 and 2011, making it one of the fastest growing wellbeing sectors in the world.
The official theme of the summit is not set to be revealed for another few weeks. The GSWS has, however, polled members of the global spa and wellness industry on the issues they currently consider of primary importance and the topics they would most like to see covered at the summit.
Findings show that training and education, the current financial landscape and profitability are among the top concerns for businesses today. Meanwhile, networking opportunities, innovation and the sharing of success stories are the factors that would most strongly persuade industry practitioners to attend the 2013 summit.
