PB meets: Airbase

Brainchild of former St.Tropez UK founder Judy Naaké and Oscar nominated make-up artist Ann Buchanan, Airbase is an airbrush cosmetics range that is quickly expanding and at the forefront of training in airbrush make-up.

What would you say was your ‘hero’ product?

The ‘hero’ product in the Airbase range is undoubtedly the long lasting foundation. For perfect results it should be applied through an airbrush to look smooth and natural. Its ability to cover skin complaints such as high colour, scarring, port wine stains and even tattoos make it popular not only for brides, but for everyday wear.

How does Airbase differentiate itself from traditional make-up application?

Airbrushing offers a lighter more natural finish. It is also more hygienic and a much quicker and easier way to achieve a flawless foundation for clients. The product put through the airbrush is even more important to ensure a high quality, long lasting result.

As Airbase is a silicone-based make-up, the high silicone content is key in the longevity and gorgeous finish that Airbase provides.

What would be the cost to professionals looking to start using Airbase?

The cost per application is approximately 50p with the recommended price to clients anything from £10 to £85, depending upon the market that you are targeting.

The £350+VAT investment for the Airbase Professional Package includes all the make-up, your airbrush and compressor and a full days training at any of the published venues around the UK.

With bridal parties such big business, the initial investment can be recouped after just one or two weddings.

What support do you provide?

Airbase prides itself on the high quality and good value training courses that we operate. Our Introductory Airbrush Make-Up course is available throughout the UK and a new masterclass course on advanced airbrushing is taking place regularly from September.

Introductory courses are also available in colleges with over 150 learning institutes already having benefited from Airbase trainers teaching their learners airbrushing skills.

What’s new at the show from Airbase?

Airbase’s newest product the Perfecting Primer will be available to try at the show.

This primer contains Colodium Platinum water, which increases the skins ability to accept moisture. The platinum is also key in protecting skin cells and therefore contains anti-ageing properties. Suitable as a moisturiser, the Perfecting Primer leaves skin feeling silky smooth and is designed as the perfect ‘First Base’ in the Airbase make-up regime.

Will you be having any special offers exclusive to the show?

Yes – The Professional Airbase Package includes training and an Airbase Make-Up Case at the show. The case has a value of £102, making it a fantastic free gift for any salon or make-up artist that commits at the show. With trainings in Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham and Leeds, there is also sure to be a course near you. Should you wish to try Airbase on yourself for a few weeks, we also have a Trial Kit including a Foundation and Foundation Brush for just £29.95 – a saving of £28 on RRP!

Have you got anything new on the horizon in terms of ranges?

Airbase is moving into colour cosmetics for the first time. Our first ever eye shadow collection is available to view and purchase at Professional Beauty North.

What should professionals keep in mind to maintain success?

Training is essential to provide both good customer service and to increase sales of both retail products and treatments. Train your staff in as many products as possible. Even staff that do not perform treatments should be trained if they are customer facing. Customers do not like unknowledgeable staff! The old adage is that knowledge is power and in the case of back up and beauty knowledge = sales!

Airbase is currently offering its training half price (RRP: £150+VAT) throughout August and those who purchase the Professional Package on the day of training will have their training fee refunded. For more information contact Airbase on 0115 967 8691.

Visit Airbase on stand F22 on 14 – 15 October at Manchester Central.
