Wrinkles and pigmentation top women’s skin concerns
Lines and wrinkles still top women’s skin concerns and having bad skin makes nearly half of women feel less confident.
According to a new survey of 1,340 women by machine manufacturer Syneron Candela, lines and wrinkles are the top skin dislike for 24% of women, with pigmentation coming second at 16%. Stretch marks (10.4%), loose, crepey skin (10%) and acne (6%) also made the top five.
Some 47% of women said that having “bad” skin with one of the above conditions made them less confident, with that figure rising to a massive 71% among 16-24 year olds and gradually dropping as women got older, to just 33% of over-55s.
Meanwhile 20% said bad skin actually made them depressed. Again, young women were most affected with 29% of 16-24s and 27% of 25-34 year olds saying it really got them down.
Strikingly, when asked at which stage in a relationship women would be most comfortable not wearing make-up, 54% of women said they would “go bare” for their partner straight away. However 8% said they would never go without make-up in front of their partner and 6% would wait until they had tied the knot.
When asked about their top skin related fears, ageing was again the biggest with 31% saying it scared them. Adult acne was next – a worry for 18% of women, while acne scarring was a fear for 12%.
The “Skinhibitions” survey was carried out by Syneron Candela to help the machines company and its clinic and salon accounts gain a better insight into what motivates women to seek treatment.
