Construction will begin on the 1,300-guest room Atlantis, Sanya Hainan, the first Atlantis resort in China and the third worldwide, at the end of 2013. The property, to be located on the island of Hainan in the South China Sea, is scheduled for completion in 2016.
Following in the footsteps of the two existing Atlantic resorts, on Paradise Island in the Bahamas and on Dubai’s manmade Palm Jumeirah island, the 62 hectare (153 acre) Atlantis, Sanya Hainan will be an ocean-themed property with amenities ranging from an Aquaventure water park complete with slides and saltwater pools and a spa, to high-end shops and a range of dining options – including restaurants headlined by world renowned chefs.
Alan Leibman, chief executive of Atlantis' owning company Kerzner International, said: "China is the perfect location for our next Atlantis resort, which will introduce the fun, interactive entertainment experiences at the heart of the Atlantis philosophy."
