7 of the best beauty moments from the Grammys 2023

The 65th annual Grammy Awards took place last night (February 5), hosted by comedian Trevor Noah at Los Angeles’s Crypto.com Arena.

Aside from record-breaking awards for Beyoncé and performances from Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige and Lizzo, one element of the night stood out to us: the beauty looks.

Here’s our beauty highlights from last night’s awards:

Tangerine dream

Lizzo

Make-up artist Alexx Mayo and nail tech Eri Ishizu teamed up for Record of the Year award winner Lizzo’s red carpet look.

For those wishing to recreate the look, Mayo broke down each element on Instagram, which, from skincare to finishing touches, was a full Charlotte Tilbury look.

The standout? Lizzo’s flushed cheeks and spiky lashes, custom made by Velour Beauty, which Mayo shared were “inspired by the 1960s mod era”.

Lizzo’s nails were also a stand-out, with Ishizu crafting an orange 3D masterpiece with moulded flowers to match her dress and hair accessories, creating “a monochromatic vibrant look that evokes a spring awakening”.

Bleached babes

Maren Morris

Proving that bleached brows are going nowhere for the foreseeable future, singer Maren Morris’ MUA, Kristine Studden, went for a grungy eye-look to contrast the lighter brows.

New-school glamour

Dylan Mulvaney

For influencer Dylan Mulvaney’s first red-carpet appearance since undergoing facial feminisation surgery, make-up artist Laurel Charleston created what she called a “simple but powerful look that played off the angles and symmetry of her stunning Christian Siriano gown”.

The classic look modernised old-school Hollywood glamour, with a glossed red lip and sharp eyeliner.

Nailed it

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift fans know just how much the singer loves to hide easter eggs throughout her life, with last night’s red-carpet appearance proving no different.

Swift paid tribute to her latest album, “Midnights”, through her manicure, with a chrome midnight blue mani to match her make-up and Roberto Cavalli co-ord.

Megan Fox

LA-based nail artist Brittney Boyce was responsible for Megan Fox’s nails for the night, creating a 14k solid white gold nails with diamond crosses.

To create these claws, Boyce worked with jeweller Marrow Fine, who shared on its Instagram how the nails were created.

“We 3D scanned them and then created the cross embellishments in CAD (computer aided design and drafting). Grew them (the diamonds) in wax, cast them and set 150 tiny white diamonds (.76 ctw).”

Go for gold

Laverne Cox

Laverne Cox worked with Emmy-nominated MUA Deja Smith for an all-gold look, which Cox referred to as “Cleopatra meets Goldfinger”

We’re loving the addition of gold leaf across the eyelids and under the waterline, following the shape of her winged liner for a glistening and gilded effect.

Tems

Winning her first ever Grammy for her feature on Future’s “Wait for U”, Nigerian singer Tems looked like she could be an award herself with glistening yellow-gold eye makeup.

The first Nigerian woman to walk away with the coveted music award, Tems kept her face simple and glowy while adding cat-eye lashes and winged liner and a brown-nude lip to complete the look.
