The Global Wellness Summit has announced Deepak Chopra as a keynote speaker for the 2015 event in Mexico City.

The alternative medicine advocate, the author of more than 80 books, will headline the speaker lineup at the ninth annual summit, held November 13-15.

Susie Ellis, chairman and chief executive of the Global Wellness Summit, said: “There are few people whose impact on the way we think about health and wellbeing has been as profound and wide reaching as Dr Chopra’s.

He has transformed the way the world views physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social wellness and we’re thrilled he accepted our invitation to speak at this year’s summit.”

Chopra, whose medical background is in internal medicine, specialising in endocrinology, is also the founder of The Chopra Foundation, an organisation dedicated to promoting health, wellbeing, healing and spiritual knowledge.

He is also co-founder of The Chopra Center for Wellbeing in California, whose services include mind-body healing classes and programmes, yoga, mediation and Ayurveda treatments.

Commenting on the news, Chopra said: “I’m thrilled to be a part of this gathering of like-minded, forward-thinking wellness influencers who are committed to helping to create a peaceful, just, sustainable, happier and healthy world.”
