Guyliner, violet mascara and graphic eyeliner among this year's trending make-up looks
Guyliner is set to make its return as it reigns supreme in the top 10 upcoming make-up trends to take the beauty industry by storm this year.
Searches for the make-up look for men have increased by more than 282% between 2020–2021, found research by Note Cosmetics, which analysed data from Google Searches to find out which make-up looks would be big this year.
Eyeliner has regularly been worn by celebrities in the past, such as actor Johnny Depp, and is becoming more frequent with younger generations who take inspiration from the likes of Damiano David from Måneskin, which is why it’s no surprise the look is now hitting the mainstream.
Bold eye looks were a common theme throughout the list, with violet and blue mascara (searches up 200% and 78.79% respectively), graphic liner (191.67%) and white eye liner (38.79%) also making the top 10.
The top 10 up and coming make-up trends for 2021 are:
- Eyeliner on guys – 282.28% increase in searches
- Violet mascara – 200%
- Graphic liner – 191.67%
- Blue mascara – 78.79%
- Black lipstick – 58.46%
- Red lipstick – 44.05%
- White eyeliner – 38.79%
- Frosted lipstick - 35.71%
- Stained lips – 33.33%
- Coral blush – 21.88%.
Lip looks made up 40% of the list, the report found, with searches for black and frosted lipstick on the rise (searches up 58.46% and 37.71% respectively), and a classic red lip remaining a popular choice (44.05%).
The research also named contouring as the most popular make-up trend of 2021, and gua sha as the most popular beauty trend of this year.
