Have your say in the new standards for wellbeing therapist apprenticeships

As part of the government’s apprenticeship reforms, a draft of the Level 3 Wellbeing Therapist Trailblazer standard is now available.

The Beauty Professional Trailblazer Steering Group is urging industry professional to share their views on the proposed standards. 

At Professional Beauty's recent spa directors' focus group, many said that finding apprentices was a challenge, so this is a crucial opportunity to help shape the standards for the future.

The Level 3 standard was drawn up by the Beauty Professional trailblazer group of employers and is designed to provide a progression step up from the new Level 2 apprenticeship standards. providing aspirational targets for learners and apprentices who are keen to progress their career. 

The following Level 3 beauty Trailblazer standards are in development: 

  • Advanced Beauty Therapist (Level 3) 

  • Wellbeing Therapist (Level 3), formally Holistic Therapist 


The draft Level 3 Wellbeing Therapist standards can be downloaded here, and beauty professionals can have their say by completing the survey by Friday 6th March 2020.

Results from the advanced beauty therapist standards will also soon be available prior to the change of the frameworks. 

George Hammer, chair of the Trailblazer Steering Group for beauty professionals, said: “These apprenticeship standards will provide apprentices with the right knowledge, skills and behaviours to competently work within the beauty and wellbeing sector and will set a great foundation for continual professional development and progression” 

Diane Hey, the employer champion of the Trailblazer Steering Group for beauty professionals added: “The Wellbeing Therapist apprenticeship standard will provide the necessary stepping stone from Level 2 and a fantastic career opportunity to progress into and onto further engagement with the wellness, holistic/spa and corporate sectors, in line with the expansion of engagement with wellbeing in our daily lives.”
