IHG to open 15 new Russian properties

The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is set to expand its presence in the Russian market, opening 15 new properties in the country by 2019. Following the signing of a franchise agreement with Regional Hotel Chain, IHG will be bringing its Holiday Express brand to Russia for the first time.

The first two properties to open will be the Holiday Inn Express Voronezh – Kirova in the second half of 2014 and the Holiday Inn Express Chelyabinsk – Central Station in the summer of 2015. The 15 new Holiday Express properties will add a total of 2,250 rooms to the 13 hotels and 3,894 rooms currently in IHG’s Russian property portfolio.

Angela Brav, IHG’s chief executive officer, Europe, said: “This is a breakthrough for IHG in Russia. It marks the debut of the Holiday Inn Express brand there and when the hotels open we will have doubled the size of our system as it stands in Russia today, marking a significant step towards our ambition to be market leaders.”

Committed to strengthening its presence in the Russian market, IHG currently has another five hotels, totalling 1,773 rooms, in development in the country – scheduled to open in the next three to five years. The international hotel group has previously announced its intention to operate 100 hotels across Russia and the wider central and eastern European region by 2020.
