Look Good Feel Better – Helping Women to Face Cancer with Confidence

Professional Beauty’s official charity Look Good Feel Better needs beauty industry’s support – get involved!

As the Beauty Industry’s official charity Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) was launched in the UK 21 years ago to help women and teenagers combat the visible side-effects of their cancer treatment by providing skincare and make-up Workshops and Masterclasses through a network of hospitals and cancer support centres nationwide. Their aim is to greatly increase a patient’s self-confidence and self-esteem at a very difficult time in their lives.

After the shock of being diagnosed with cancer, many women and teenagers are then devastated by the distressing side-effects of their treatment, some of which can dramatically change their appearance. Loss of hair, eyebrows and eyelashes, all of which can be particularly difficult to cope with. Consequently, patients can suffer from loss of self-confidence and self-esteem, making it harder to deal with their illness, treatment and day to day activities most of us take for granted.

LGFB needs the support of the Professional Beauty, Spa and Wellness Industry to enable them to increase their reach to many thousands more women and teenagers affected from the distressing physical side-effects form their cancer treatment.

Jackie Croxford, Owner of Essential Beauty, attended Professional Beauty North last October. After speaking to a LGFB Volunteer at their stand she decided to host her own fundraising event at her salon. The event really brought the local community together, with many people contributing to its success. Through the generosity of local individuals, Jackie accumulated 22 raffle prizes including a Dermalogica skin package and an Arbonne skin package.  In addition, one beautician provided a make-up demonstration, whilst another gave some taster sessions of reflexology. They also held some hypnotherapy sessions. Funds were boosted through the provision of home-made cakes and wine that were sold at the event.

Jackie says “My friend was diagnosed with breast cancer and attend a LGFB workshop. I remember it really lifted her spirits and gave her renewed strength to deal with her cancer treatment. After speaking to LGFB at the show, I decided to host an event to raise funds for this charity and to help more women going through a similar situation to my friend”.

LGFB needs more supporters like Jackie to help raise funds. This can be done by getting involved in LGFB’s main fundraising event ‘Feel Better Week’ which this year runs between the 1st and 7th June. Whether it’s a coffee morning with home-made cakes, a cheese and wine evening, a pamper party or a pop up nail bar, whatever you choose to do can make a huge difference.
