Met Gala 2023: Hottest nail and make-up looks
Last night (May 1) saw celebrity royalty flock to New York City for the first Monday in May, or, as it is more commonly recognised, the Met Gala. This year's theme, 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty', in honour of the late, great designer who passed away of pancreatic cancer in 2019 at the age of 85, saw celebrities pay tribute to Lagerfeld through fashion, nails, and make-up.
Check out some of the stand-out nails and make-up looks of the Met Gala 2023 and the incredible professionals behind them...
Our favourite nail moments
Doja Cat
Doja Cat did not disappoint in the nail department either… Her cat-like claws by Saccia Livingston complemented her feline prosthetic make-up and bedazzled backless Oscar de la Renta dress perfectly.
The made complete with an encrusted hood with cat ears was an ode to the late Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved pet cat, Choupette.

Rita Ora
One of the standout nail looks of this year’s Met Gala is undoubtedly Naomi Yusada’s set for Rita Ora, which completely elevated her sheer black dress with a variety of long chains hanging from each nail. We loved the varying length of the chains and the combination of charms.

Lil Nas X
Lil Nas X bought the drama with his silver body paint look by wearing nothing but a bejewelled thong.
Crystals and pearls were used to accentuate parts of the singer’s physique but it was the nails and make-up that really stole the show. The completely encrusted claws created by Temeka Jackson took the dazzling cat mask to new heights.

Jennifer Lopez
Tom Bachik’s nude, matte, ballet-shaped set for J-Lo was framed beautifully by a shiny black half-French design, reminiscent of the timeless Chanel ballet pumps complete with a black crystal Chanel logo accent finger.

Miranda Kerr
As a tribute to Lagerfeld, Miranda Kerr wore the iconic Chanel Camellia as an accent design over the gorgeous sheer pinky shade Neglige from CND. This subtle and understated look was created by celebrity manicurist Kim Truong.

Suki Waterhouse
Stepping onto the carpet with partner Robert Pattinson, the “Daisy Jones and The Six” star wowed with watercolour inspired eyeshadow by MUA Cedric Jolivet.
The look featured pastel green, soft lilac and blush pink to match the beaded flower details on her Fendi gown.

Emma Chamberlain
For her third MET, and second time as Vogue’s official red-carpet correspondent, YouTuber-turned-superstar Emma Chamberlain worked with make-up artist Kelsey Deenihan Fisher to create a moody, smoky blue metallic halo eye with matte skin and a 90s-inspired nude brown lip using Lancôme products.
The look worked well with both her red carpet fits, with the blue matching her Miu Miu set she wore to walk the carpet, and smokey elements complimenting her black outfit as she interviewed stars on the carpet.

Rihanna
Whilst technically not a make-up look, we love the OTT shades RiRi donned for the red carpet, with XXL lashes to complete the look.
When the glasses came off, Rihanna revealed a stunning soft and icy glam by Fenty Beauty’s global make-up artist Priscilla Ono, assisted by Yvette Evora.
The almost-90s frosted shadow look was given a modern twist with a bright and bold red lip - a decision that brightened up her otherwise cold-toned look.

Gigi Hadid
Are frosty eyes coming back? Judging by both Rihanna’s pearlescent look and Gigi Hadid’s silver shimmer shadow, we think this is a trend to watch.
Patrick Ta, who created the look, upgraded a classic winged liner with soft pearly-shimmer across the lid and a soft and subtle base. The MUA went as far to add a detail you may have missed in tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, with a tiny pearl placed under each of her eyes in a subtle nod to the late designer.
