Pantone 17-5641 Emerald named Colour of the Year 2013
Global colour company Pantone has named emerald the Colour of the Year for 2013.
The annual trend forecast follows the analysis of colour in a number of industries, including beauty, fashion, entertainment, art, technology and sports events.
Emerald was selected as it is set to rise to prominence in fashion, beauty, interiors, print and graphic design over the coming twelve months.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, said: “The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other colour in the spectrum. Symbolically, emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.”
In colour cosmetics, emerald is said to dramatise all eye colours, enhancing green eyes, intensifying brown eyes, emphasising the green tones in hazel eyes, and complementing blues. Toning with peach, rose, ruby and aubergine shades, the colour opens up a number of lipstick and blush options.
Emerald is also described as the “perfect punctuation point in nail colour” due to its complementary nature.
In addition to beauty, the emerald trend is set to be big in fashion and interior design. Salons and spas could harness the colour to create a “luxurious feel in an entryway”, or use towels and accessories to bring in the tone as an accent.
