PB Upskills (Jan 18–22): social media and salon business plan masterclasses

Next week’s PB Upskills programme will deliver education on a range of digital, business and practical skills, from doing social media advertising and creating a 2021 business plan during Covid-19, to understanding the new audio-only social network Clubhouse. 

PB Upskills is a daily programme of free education to help beauty and spa professionals use the Covid-19 lockdown to upskill, so they can reopen their businesses stronger. This education is aimed at salon owners, spa operators, and mobile and home-based beauty businesses. 

 

What to expect from our PB Upskills series (January 18–22):

Monday 18 January – 10am – Digital Skills live with Kate Woods (part two) – “Mastering social media advertising”

In this digital masterclass, Kate Woods of digital hair and beauty marketing specialist Salondipity, will deliver a full-proof guide to mastering social media advertising. Woods will cover: what Business Manager is and why should you use it, the types of ads to run and the ones you shouldn’t, who can you target and, most importantly, how to do this effectively. Woods will also cover what all the fuss is about in terms of Facebook pixel as well as do a few quick demonstrations of how Business Manager works. This is the second in a series of three Digital Skills sessions Woods will be doing for PB this month.

Tuesday 19 January – 1pm – Tough Talk – “Live with Hellen Ward”

In our new Tough Talk series, Professional Beauty and Hairdressers’ Journal managing director Mark Moloney asks industry titans how they have got to the top and what we can learn from their successes and failures. In the first session, Moloney will host a candid interview with Hellen Ward, managing director at Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa, about her business, including the secrets behind her success, the mistakes she has made along the way and how she is navigating the ongoing challenges of running a large salon business during coronavirus.

Wednesday 20 January – 1pm – Practical Skills live with Debbie Lewis – “Clubhouse: how beauty and hair businesses can use the hot new social platform”

In this session, salon social media consultant Debbie Lewis will explain the hype behind the new audio-only social media platform everyone’s talking about – Clubhouse. We’ll cover how to get in on this invitation-only app and what to do when you get there, including the important conversations that are going on already and how beauty and hair businesses owners can use the platform to make fresh connections and grow their skillsets.

Thursday 21 January – 12:30pm – Business Skills live with Liz McKeon (part two) – “How to create a business plan that works”

What’s your biggest goal for 2021? In this session, business consultant Liz McKeon will talk through how to create a business plan that works for you. Irrespective of what happened in 2020, you can’t lose sight of your goals for this year and now is the time to start thinking about them. As we’re starting the year in lockdown 3.0, it would be easy to lose sight of your vision, but it’s more important than ever to create one and stay focused so you can achieve your goals. This is the second in a series of three Business Skills sessions McKeon will be doing for PB this month.

Friday 22 January – Lockdown Lessons – “Pro brands launch free education for beauty industry during Covid-19”

As part of our ongoing PB Upskills series, we wanted to highlight the free training and support the professional brands are offering to salon owners, spa operators, and mobile and home-based therapists during coronavirus lockdown so they can improve their skills ready for reopening. In this written article, we round-up 11 offers of free education from the pro brands you should take advantage of during this time of enforced closure.
