(Updated) Potting Shed, Rudding Park and Cowshed among first UK spas to offer CBD treatments
With the popularity of cannabidiol (CBD) in beauty products showing no signs of slowing down, the ingredient is now making its way into professional treatments.
Rudding Park in Harrogate is one of the first spas in the UK to introduce a treatment using CBD oil, which is a naturally occurring constituent found in the cannabis plant.
The hotel and spa worked with MariPharm, a supplier of CBD products, to create an experience that promotes anti-ageing, helps with pain relief and reduces the symptoms of anxiety – which isn’t surprising with a quarter of Brits now using holistic therapies to aid their mental health.
Meanwhile, Cowshed Spa in London has created two CBD treatments, a facial using CBD-infused creams that aim to calm irritated and hormonal skin issues, as well as a de-stressing massage; while award-winning The Potting Shed Spa in West Yorkshire is set to be the first training academy in the UK to offer CBD training for salons and spas.
“As a natural ingredient, research has shown CBD can help with an array of ailments which makes it hugely appealing to those who care about what they eat, drink or apply to their skin,” said Sarah Johnson, Rudding Park’s spa manager.
“As a new trend taking the wellness and beauty world by storm, it’s important for us to embrace CBD so we can offer guests what they are looking from a spa experience.”
What Rudding Park’s CBD experience involves:
Rudding Park’s CBD Experience begins with the client’s hands being wrapped in a hot towel infused with CBD oil, before being given the option of a spray of CBD oil under the tongue and a gentle foot cleanse using CBD oil.
Cannabidiol is then applied to any problem areas to aid healing, with the treatment finishing with a relaxing CBD tea and CBD chocolate.
Any guests who book in for the spa’s Time for Two couples’ treatment can also enhance their wellness experience with the addition of a 25-minute CBD Bath Ritual, where a copper bath is filled with warm water and soothing CBD oil.
What Potting Shed's training involves:
Owner and founder Sam Pearce has been working on The Potting Shed's Greenhouse Academy CBD training for some time, which teaches treatments that blend the power of massage with the healing properties of cannabidiol oil.
"I've looked at different brands to incorporate into the treatments and I'm confident that we've sourced the best organic product available. It is critical that this offering is perceived in the correct way, and this is down to the training – the information provided is key to understanding this. It is all too easy to stereotype CBD oil and not take it seriously, but the case studies and results we've documented are incredible," said Pearce.
The offering can be tailored to the requirements of each business and there will be supporting products, which salons and spas can retail to clients. The course is fully booked but new dates are being announced in September. Email [email protected] for more information.
"Half of the battle is in educating clients that this product isn’t going to provide psychosis or addiction and that the healing benefits are endless. It’s about beating them to it in terms of phraseology, demystifying it is the key," added Pearce.
