Sales of face oils grows by double digits in the UK

Sales of face oils saw double-digit growth in the UK in 2015, according to figures from market analysts the NPD Group.

While face oils still account for just 1% of the prestige women’s skincare market, sales in the category rose by 30.8% between 2014 and 2015.

The prestige beauty market was valued at £2.4 billion in 2015, with women’s skincare accounting for £496 million of this.

The face oils category includes cleansing oils and anti-ageing oils.

NPD said growth in the category was driven by an increased awareness of the products, as well as by new launches.

New launches in the category include the Nourishing Cleansing Oil from Elemis and the Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil from Clarins.

Best-selling face oil products in 2015 included the Huile Orchidee Bleue and the Huile Santal, both from Clarins.

Teresa Fisher, senior account manager, NPD UK Beauty, said:

“The recent growth in the face oil market is boosting the prestige skincare market by increasing sales, and also demonstrates the enthusiasm with which consumers adopt new rituals and are willing to try new products and innovations.”

The face oil segments also includes treatment shave oils for men, the sales of which grew from £2.3m in 2011 to £4.9m in 2015.

The category saw a 20% rise between 2014 and 2015.
