Spa Illuminata reveals plans to open Park Lane site

London’s eminent Spa Illuminata in Mayfair is gearing up to open a larger sister site in the nearby Park Lane area next year, with an entirely new concept based around Russian banya and Turkish baths.

Spa Illuminata Park Lane will open in early 2015 and will be the third site for the group, which is owned by Oxfordshire’s Danesfield House Hotel and has a spa there too.

The new spa will be on Park Street, a short walk from the group’s South Audley Street flagship salon, and will offer a much larger footprint, yet fewer treatment rooms. Instead, space will be dedicated to a full wet spa with a large social steam bath, Russian banya, a small swimming pool, cold plunge pool and relaxation rooms.

There will be four or five treatment rooms compared with nine in the smaller Mayfair salon, which is dedicated to results-driven treatments using machines such as 3D-Skintech and the new Efficy 3 from Germaine de Capuccini. The Mayfair site has just taken on Germaine de Capuccini, having ended its 12-year partnership with Decléor and Carita.

The new Park Lane site will use authentic Turkish and Russian products. “We’ll add a third brand for anti-ageing facials, which will hopefully be an English skincare line,” said Illuminata spas’ director Asta Stravinskaite.

The spa is currently being designed by a Russian architect. “We have a lot of Russian and Arabic clients in our Mayfair spa who have been asking for something a bit different,” said Stravinskaite, “so the new spa will be focused on relaxation and we will offer joint memberships for local clients.”

The news follows the announcement by nearby Urban Retreat at Harrods that it will also open a hammam-style wet spa this autumn (see Professional Beauty February 2014, page 17), indicating a significant market for such services in London.
