Swinton Estate appoints spa manager

Family-owned UK hotel Swinton Estate has appointed Richard Macklin spa manager for its new country club and spa.

Macklin joins the North Yorkshire property from Hoar Cross Hall hotel in Staffordshire, where he was spa director, and will oversee Swinton’s new build country club and spa – scheduled to open next month.

Macklin, who brings more than 25 years’ industry experience to the role, previously worked for the German arm of fitness club group Holmes Place as one of its general managers.

Other past positions include senior director of spa and leisure for day spa Nirvana Spa in Berkshire, and director of Chessgrove Day Spa in Worcestershire, both in the UK.

Co-owner Felicity Cunliffe-Lister said: “We are thrilled Richard is joining us.

"His wealth of experience will ensure the spa has a flying start, and his impressive track record will help the spa and the team to grow, so we can deliver a very special experience to all our guests.”

The new spa at the 32-room boutique hotel will feature nine treatment rooms, an 18-metre swimming pool, a hydrotherapy pool, steam rooms, and a spa garden with a herbal sauna, hot tub, swimming pool and shower.

The spa will also include a “beauty cottage” where treatments including manicures, pedicures and hair treatments will be offered. Other facilities will include a gym offering a range of classes, from yoga and pilates to spinning and circuit training.

The spa will be working with British skincare brands Elemis and Bamford. The privately owned hotel is surrounded by a 20,000-acre estate.
