UK bathroom cabinets contain £5 billion worth of out-of-date cosmetics, according to a recent study by Holland and Barrett.
21% of women surveyed admitted they were beauty hoarders, with many saying they hadn’t had a cabinet clear out in more than two years.
Shampoo, conditioner, hair removal creams, lipsticks, blushers, face creams and nail polishes are among the most popular products UK women hoard past their sell by date, the report found.
Seven in 10 said they are likely to buy a beauty product, use it once, and then leave it to rot at the back of the cupboard, others admitted to having items that are up to five years out of date.
Four signs your beauty products are out of date:
- Change in colour
- Looks runny/has separated
- Formula has gone lumpy
- Feels different on skin than it once did.
This research comes as part of Holland and Barrett’s Cleaner Beauty campaign, with the mission to encourage transparency within the beauty industry.
