Westin Hotels & Resorts has launched a US$15million (£9.1m) wellness campaign to encourage guests to lead healthier lives.

To kick-start the yearlong Westin Wellbeing initiative, more than 200 Westin hotels and resorts around the world are holding open houses, offering wellness activities such as yoga sessions, express Heavenly Spa appointments and 5K runs.

Divided into six categories: Feel Well, Sleep Well, Eat Well, Work Well, Move Well and Play Well, Westin Wellbeing will also see the hospitality group partner with Headspace, a company that provides online meditation services.

In addition to Headspace creating meditation tools for Westin guests, co-founder Andy Puddicombe will also sit on the Westin Wellbeing Council, an advisory board compiled of experts specialising in the six different pillars of wellness.

Puddicombe is the first appointment to be made to the board, with more appointments to be announced throughout the year.

Westin Wellbeing includes the provision of Run Westin running maps featuring walking and jogging routes, under the Move Well umbrella, and partnering with SuperFoodsRx, which develops products for optimum nutritional health, under the auspices of Eat Well.

The Westin programme is part of an industry-wide hospitality focus on guest health and wellbeing, with InterContinental Hotels Group’s Even Hotels brand – launched in 2012 and specifically developed for those wishing to maintain a healthy lifestyle on the road – being another example of this.
