International spa and wellness consultancy bbspa_Group is launching a new subterranean bathhouse and spa concept named Atera in Glasgow city centre this September.
Led by global partners Kirsty MacCormick, Regis Boudon Doris, and Ghislain Waeyeart, the group is currently overseeing more than 80 projects worldwide, including 30 across the UK. Atera marks the company's first major commercial opening in the UK market.
Development is currently underway on the Oswald Street site, located near Glasgow Central Station.
The facility will centre around Mediterranean wellness traditions and ancient bathing rituals, using thermal, movement, and treatment experiences.
Glasgow city centre spa facilities and membership packages
Alongside the thermal zones, the city-centre footprint will incorporate a gym, dedicated movement studios, and a wellness-focused café built on Mediterranean nutritional principles.
Atera’s operational model will focus on long-term health, recovery, and performance metrics. Its membership tiers are designed to combine advanced diagnostic testing with tailored movement and recovery strategies to create individual wellbeing roadmaps for clients.
Bringing european bathhouse and thermal rituals to Scotland
Kirsty MacCormick, SVP of global operations at bbspa_Group and head of the UK office, commented on the rollout:
“Across Europe, bathhouses have long played an important role in bringing people together through shared rituals of relaxation, restoration and connection. With Atera, we’re creating a destination that honours those traditions while responding to the needs of modern city life."
MacCormick added: “Located in the beating heart of Glasgow, Atera offers a space to pause, reset and invest in wellbeing in a way that feels both purposeful and sustainable.
"This is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to revealing more about the space and what guests can expect to experience in the coming months.”
Further details on Atera’s specific thermal facilities, treatment protocols, and membership pricing structures will be released ahead of the official September launch.
