The US prestige beauty sector grew 3% in 2014, to reach US$11.2billion (£7.3bn), according to new data from market analysts the NPD Group.
The growth was led by makeup, which was up 6%, while fragrance increased by 2% and skincare by 1%.
Karen Grant, global beauty industry analyst at NPD, said: “The beauty industry had a solid annual performance in a somewhat difficult retail environment, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement and development.”
The mass market beauty channel in the US remained static in 2014, compared to 2013. Skincare in this market was up 2%, while fragrance and makeup decreased by 4% and 1% respectively.
Internationally, the prestige beauty market grew by 5% in Canada and the UK and 1% in France, but was down 2% in Spain and 1% in Italy, compared to 2013.
