Rockliffe Hall expands spa portfolio with acquisition of Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa

Updated on 04th Sep 2025

Rockliffe Hall has acquired Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, following a sale by administrators PKF Littlejohn Advisory.

The deal, completed on August 29, transfers the 33-bedroom boutique hotel and spa to The Feversham Arms (2025) Limited, a company owned by Rockliffe Hall Limited.

All staff will remain in post under TUPE regulations, with contracted terms and conditions unchanged.

Feversham Arms joins Rockliffe Hall’s growing hospitality portfolio, which includes its award-winning five-star resort in County Durham – home to a spa, golf course and multiple restaurants – as well as The Pheasant Hotel in nearby Harome.

Rockliffe Hall said it recognises the appeal of Helmsley and its surroundings to both UK and international travellers, and sees strong long-term potential in the property. The hotel and spa will continue to operate in its current format.

Oliver Collinge, joint administrator at PKF Littlejohn Advisory, said: “We are delighted to have completed this sale to Rockliffe. We would like to extend our thanks to the staff at the hotel; they have made a huge contribution to ensuring a successful outcome by maintaining the high levels of service that the hotel’s guests expect, despite the challenges and uncertainty that administration brings.”

The administrators were advised by Colliers and legal firm Weightmans, while the purchaser’s legal team was led by Womble Bond Dickinson.

Expansion of Rockliffe Hall’s spa offering

Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa is a well-established destination spa and retreat, attracting both UK and international travellers to the North Yorkshire market town of Helmsley.

Verbena Spa is known for its thermal experiences, treatments, and boutique countryside setting, complementing Rockliffe Hall’s existing five-star spa resort in County Durham.

With the acquisition, Rockliffe Hall strengthens its position as a leading luxury spa operator in the North of England.

Alongside its flagship Rockliffe Hall resort and The Pheasant Hotel in Harome, the new property extends the group’s reach across a wider leisure and spa market.
