Mövenpick expands into Asia

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is expanding into the Asian market with new openings in China and Thailand, as the Swiss hotel group celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
The hotel group, which already operates seven properties in Asia and is on course to open a total of 100 properties across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East by 2015, will open the 5-star Mövenpick Hotel Enshi in China this summer.
The 14-storey property will be located in the city’s Enshi City business district and will include 250 rooms and a spa and fitness centre, in addition to two restaurants, a ballroom, meeting rooms and other amenities. The Mövenpick Hotel Enshi will be the first 5-star hotel in the city.
By 2015, the Mövenpick will operate a further three properties in China, a 380-room hotel on Phoenix Island in the city of Sanya in southern China, a 350-room property in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia and a 300-room hotel in Shanghai’s Jiading district.
Meanwhile, the 190-room Mövenpick Resort & Spa will be located in the beach resort of Hua Hin and joins the hospitality group’s two properties in Phuket as pat of its Thai property portfolio. With two hotels scheduled for Chang Mai and properites also opening in Bangkok, Koh Samui and Pattaya, the Mövenpick’s presence in the country will have grown to eight hotels in three year’s time.
