Minimal makeup, thick lashes and bold colours are some of the key beauty trends for 2014, according to market analyst Mintel.
Drawing on the trends at the big four fashion weeks; New York, London, Paris and Milan, in February and March, Mintel and makeup artist Jeyanney predict that the understated look will be big this year.
Jeyanney said: “Less is more with the ‘no makeup’ look, which focuses on the skin, making it appear hydrated, shine-free and well-conditioned,” Mintel anticipates that the rise of muted makeup will lead to a boost in the already growing sales of BB and CC creams.
Thick lashes reminiscent of the 1960s look also featured heavily on the catwalks. Mintel expects this to give a boost to the use of false lashes, which otherwise have among the lowest market penetration within the colour cosmetics segment.
Bright, standout, colours, including neon lip hues and blue shades for the eyes, was also highlighted as a strong 2014 makeup trend. Jeyanney commented: “The key to this look is, the bolder the better. It’s [all] about colour, keeping the rest of the makeup understated.”
