Buxton Crescent thermal spa development to start in October

Development of the thermal spa at Buxton Crescent in Derbyshire will begin in October, it has been announced.

Owners of the spa, Buxton Crescent Hotel and Spa Company, has appointed sauna and steam room expert Dalesauna as consultant for the scheme’s thermal and wet treatment offering.

The new spa will be operated by Danubius Hotels and will feature two existing basement pools (one male and one female), both of which will be completely refurbished, a sauna, saunarium, infrared sauna, ice room, aroma room, steam room and salt grotto. In addition, there will be a variety of medical tubs, which can be used to deliver CO2 baths and peat-infused baths. There will also be hydro massage and a hydrotherapy bath for couples.

The new spa is being developed by Trevor Osborne Property Group and CP Holdings [the majority owner of Danubius Hotels] as part of the multi-million pound transformation.

The project is being funded by a variety of sources including the developers (£15m), Heritage Lottery Fund (£12.4m), English Heritage (0.5m) and Derbyshire County Council and High Peak Borough Council (£2m).
