Mövenpick continues expansion into the Thai market

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has taken over the The Passage, Koh Samui Resort in Thailand and is set to renovate and reopen the resort as the Mövenpick Resort Laem Yai Beach Samui in November.

The renovation will see 23 guest rooms added to the existing 50 villas. The resort, which also features a spa, three pools and a kid’s club, as well as a restaurant, a lobby lounge and a pool bar, will be the Swiss hotel group’s third property in Thailand.

Andreas Mattmüller, chief operating officer for the Middle East & Asia, said: “This region is a significant development sector for our brand and we believe our resort on Laem Yai Beach is a wonderful asset and offers great potential."

The company already operates the Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket and the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket. Mövenpick plans to have five properties in operation in Thailand by the end of 2015, with a further two openings scheduled for 2017.
