Buy cosmetics from reputable sources, CTPA tells consumers
The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association has urged consumers to only buy cosmetics from reputable sources, following a large amount of fake beauty goods being seized by Trading Standards Officers in the West Midlands earlier this month.
The CTPA said in a statement, “The problem with counterfeit products is that the packaging and look of the product can be almost impossible to tell apart from the real thing. Unfortunately, the product inside is nothing like the genuine product.
“Not only is it unlikely to work as well as it should, it may actually be unsafe and cause you harm.”
This statement comes following Trading Standards seizing counterfeit beauty products such as imitations of consumer make-up by MAC and Benefit from a beauty shop in Warwickshire earlier in February.
Counterfeit products continue to be a huge problem for the beauty industry, as well as grey market goods acquired through unofficial channels, particularly online.
