Fair Trade beauty products begin to impact UK market
New research has found that 16% of UK consumers questioned have purchased Fair Trade-certified beauty products in the last twelve months, with younger consumers driving the trend.
Young adults and those up to the age of 44 were more willing to try Fair Trade beauty products – and pay a premium for them – than their older counterparts. The research points to wider awareness of ethical issues.
Nancy Sharrar, a research analyst at Canadean Consumer, the firm that carried out the study, said: “Fair Trade is usually associated with food products like coffee or bananas, but these figures show that consumers are leaning towards ethical consumerism across the wider FMCG landscape.”
