Global Wellness Institute to collaborate with the World Tourism Organization
The Global Wellness Institute (GWI) has signed an agreement to collaborate with the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The “memorandum of understanding” will see the two organisations work together to create initiatives that support and promote wellness tourism and the role it can play in growing the global tourism industry as a whole.
The agreement was signed by Susie Ellis, chairman and chief executive of the GWI and Taleb Rifai, secretary-general of UNWTO.
Rifai said: “We are following the evolution of wellness tourism with great interest and look forward to working closely with the GWI on initiatives that will allow our member states to develop this important segment.”
The points on which the two organisations will collaborate include developing strategies for how wellness tourism can help make seasonal destinations attractive to travellers all year round.
Ellis said: “Wellness offerings are a natural and creative way to attract more business during the low season. There are great examples of countries and regions that have already implemented wellness campaigns to buck seasonality trends.”
