Murad’s UK distributor has been acquired by the company’s US head office as part of a wider strategic plan by the brand to accelerate its international expansion.

All 60 of the Murad UK employees will be kept on and employed by the US parent company.

Murad’s global general manager Richard Murad said “With the acquisition of a UK distributor as our European hub and the planned acquisition of a Hong Kong distributor who can provide us with a robust presence in Asia, we are making a major strategic investment that will dramatically expand our ability to reach consumers who are eager to transform their skin with Murad skincare.”

Murad has also outlined plans to increase its investment in the UK via both retail and professional channels.

Planned growth includes expansion of the shop-in-shop concept, which it has launched into eight sites over the last two years. The model includes the use of diagnostic software to act as a virtual consultation with Dr Howard Murad. The company said it was targeting an additional 10 locations by the close of 2015.

Richard Murad added: “When we began in 1989, our most intense efforts were focused on opportunities to expand our sales close to home with North America as the major market for high-performance skincare products. Twenty-five years later, the entire world is eager to experience the results our brand delivers.”
