A New York ritual
With flickering candles, marble stone floors, exposed brick walls and wood-beam ceilings, New York bathhouse Aire Ancient Baths embodies sumptuousness.
The first international outpost for Spanish parent company Grupo Aire, which has spas in Barcelona, Almeria and Seville, it cost £6.4m (US$10m) and took two and a half years to create this decadent three-storey 1486sq m space.
The premise behind Aire Ancient Baths, housed in a former textile building on 88 Franklin Street in the Manhattan neighbourhood of Tribeca, was to bring back the tradition of Greek and Roman ancient baths, says Armando Prados, owner of Grupo Aire.
