Banyan Tree and Jumeirah among World Travel Award winners

Leading international hotel groups Jumeirah and Banyan Tree were among the winners at the 2012 World Travel Awards.

Held at The Oberoi, Gurgaon, in New Delhi, India, on December 12th, the awards recognise achievements across the global travel and tourism industry.

Spas and resort destinations honoured at the 2012 event include Banyan Tree Bankok, the winner of the world’s leading city spa hotel award, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray in Dubai, which won the prize for the world’s leading spa and wellness resort and Regent Palm Turks & Caicos, which took home the world’s leading spa resort award. The world’s leading villa resort and spa honour went to the Gili Lankanfushi in the Maldives.

Other spa and wellness industry winners was the Hotel Les Ottomans in Istanbul, crowned the world’s leading all suite hotel and spa, the Mardan Spa at the Mardan Palce hotel in Antalya, Turkey, named the world’s leading hotel spa and the world’s leading eco resort and spa winner Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa in Australia.

Affirming the strong central European wellness tradition, Vamed Vitality World in Austria was named the world’s leading medical wellness and spa operator, with the Grand Hotel Lienz, also in Austria, awarded the world’s leading wellness hotel accolade.

The World Travel Awards date back to 1993 and is one of the international travel and tourism industry’s top honours.
