The UK’s prestige beauty market grew by 6% during the 2012 London Olympic Games, according to new research.
The report from market analyst the NPD Group revealed that Olympic themed nail art sported by the athletes inspired consumers to follow suit and generated a 19% boost in year-on-year sales.
Skincare, fragrance and make-up also generated a £2.9m boost to the total prestige beauty market during the Olympics, compared to the same period in 2011.
June Jensen, director for NPD Group Beauty UK, said: “The Olympics delivered a real boost to the prestige beauty market, with London benefitting more than any other region, across all categories in the sector. Athletes are now associated with glamour, as well as sporting prowess. The surge in nail art was a fun and affordable way for women to buy into the trend, as well as showing support for the Games."
