Canyon Ranch in-flight health options with Singapore Airlines launches today

Health and wellness resort brand Canyon Ranch and Singapore Airlines have collaborated to create a wellness experience in the sky, with the first ultra-long range Airbus A350 offering the service launching today. 

The “world’s longest flight” (19-hour journey) departs from Newark to Singapore and is offering a range of exclusive Canyon Ranch wellness experiences to help travellers unwind, from science-based strategies to alleviate jet-lag and improve sleep quality, to exercises that promote circulation. 

“The partnership made sense because Singapore Airlines align with our values and after having successful locations on land and sea, it only made sense to take to the skies,” explains Susan Docherty, chief executive officer of Canyon Ranch. “They are a partner that is as committed to their guests’ experience as we are.” 

Stretching exercises are available via seatback entertainment systems “which you can do in your seat to boost mood and circulation,” says Docherty. Canyon Ranch exercise physiologists created the five-minute activities, focusing particularly on the shoulder, torso, ankle, knee and legs, which can stiffen up during long periods of travel. 

Meanwhile, with sleep and its impact on mental health a hot topic, the companies have collaborated to create an environment on the plane that will help improve the quality of travellers' rest. Ambient light settings are available in the cabin to aid relaxation, with a range of colour combinations, while breathing exercise videos and demonstrations of self-guided and soothing massages will be on offer. 

Wellness cuisine menus have been developed to focus on hydration, nutrition and flavours, with Canyon Ranch flying out its lead chef to work with Singapore Airlines on the menu. “They are very balanced meals that cater to all diets,” said Docherty. “They are gluten- and sugar-free and there’s no sweeteners or preservatives.” 

Menu options include savour seared chicken and wide zucchini ribbons, bright braised tomatoes, lemon vinaigrette and topping of micro-basil, and protein-filled lox eggs benedict. 

Canyon Ranch has resorts in Tucson, Lenox and Las Vegas, as well as many spas at sea. Docherty double the amount of spas it has on sea in the future.
