cdBAFI injectables inspectorate acquired by IQ

Awarding organisation Industry Qualifications has acquired the Cosmetic, Dermal, Botulinum, Aesthetic & Fillers Inspectorate (cdBAFI).

cdBAFI will become part of a new IQ division, IQ Verify, which will offer inspection and certification services.

cdBAFI is an independent inspecting body, which clinics and salons offering injectable treatments can join to have their premises inspected and verified. Unlike the IHAS Treatments You Can Trust register, cdBAFI is open to qualified therapists as well as doctors.

IQ is now working on the development of a standardised qualification for injectables, open to all, and in keeping with recommendaitons from the Government’s Keogh review.

This is the first move into the beauty and aesthetics sector for IQ, which now plans to offer a range of nationally approved beauty qualifications, in competition with organisations such as City and Guilds and VTCT.

IQ’s chief executive Raymond Clarke said: “We are delighted by this acquisition and have substantial plans to develop the IQ operation in the beauty sector. Our expectation is that IQ Verify will gain UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) approval for inspection and certification services next year [so] we will be able to expand the cdBAFI range of services to include a range of ISO standards in addition to technical standards within the industry.”
