CTPA refutes claims that cosmetics can disrupt hormone production

The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) has refuted reports that many skincare products contain harmful endocrine disruptors, which affect hormone production.

A Euopean consumer association named Que Choisir (which translates as What To Choose) published an article claiming many cosmetic and hygiene products contained endocrine disruptors. These are harmful agents that affect the endocrine system, which is responsible for hormone production.

According to the article, Que Choisir analysed 66 items and discovered the harmful substance in products such as Nivea’s Dry Comfort, Neutrogena Hand and Nail Cream and Labello lip balm.

However the CPTA has negated these claims, stating that any products containing dangerous ingredients could not legally be sold to consumers.

Director-general of the CTPA Dr Chris Flower said, “People should not be misled on the issue. Cosmetic products do not contain endocrine disruptors and there is absolutely no need for concern.”

The CTPA reminded the public that there is a legal obligation for manufacturers and importers to carry our rigorous safety checks performed by qualified, scientific experts before placing a product on the market.
