Everything you need to know about the Nail Competition at PB North 2023
Professional Beauty is collaborating with The Federation of Nail Professionals (aka The FNP) on the prestigious Nail Competitions at Professional Beauty North, with eleven exciting categories to enter.
Entries are finally open for the Nail Competitions, here’s everything you need to know about before entering any categories. Check all of the categories below and check where you would feel the best!
The 2023 Professional Beauty North Nail Competition categories are:
ON THE SHOW FLOOR CATEGORIES:
Competition Nail (75 mins)
create the perfect, classic competition nail in pink and white in a system of your choice (Liquid & Powder or UV Cured Gel Products) with either tip & overlay or sculpt. One Hand (2 nails painted, 3 nails in finished product)
Level: Student and Nail Professional
Learn A Skill (60 mins demo/prep & 60 mins comp floor)
watch the live skill demo, learn a skill, repeat the skill, make your twist on the skill. No model needed as working on 4 supplied tips.
Level: Open
Pink & White Extreme Nail (105 mins)
create the perfect extreme nail shapes in pink and white (French) in a system of your choice (Liquid & Powder or UV Cured Product).
Level: Open
Salon Nail (60 mins)
create the perfect salon nail in pink and white in a system of your choice (Liquid & Powder or UV Cured Product) with either tip & overlay or sculpt.
Level: Open
Manicure (45 mins)
show your manicure skills and how you care for the natural nail and surrounding skin. Complete a standard manicure across both hands with polish on one hand only to include French and dark.
Level: Student and Nail Professional
UV Gel Polish (50 mins)
demonstrate your perfection gel polish application and showcase your skills showing cuticle work and file & shape.
Level: Student and Nail Professional
Salon Nail Art Challenge (30 mins)
decorate a pre painted nail (natural or enhancement) with a seasonal design to match your clients needs and lifestyle (competitors to provide a mood board at time of judging).
Level: Open
Shape of Your Art (120 mins)
create your preferred extreme nail shape and let your imagination go wild! Embed or embellish these nails in a design of your choice. Your choice of system (Liquid & Powder or UV Cured Product).
Level: Open
Fantasy Showcase (60 mins)
this category will be judged by Hazel Dixon and her team and is open to and inviting both student and professional nail artists to test their product control skills, imagination, and creativity. You will need to create your design in your own venue and on the day bring your creation and your model to dress and prepare in the style of your choice bringing your ideas to life.

OFF THE SHOW FLOOR CATEGORIES
THEME: MYTHICAL CREATURES & WORLDS
InstaNail Photographic
create a photo you would be proud to showcase on your business Instagram page. This image could showcase you, your skills, and your creativity. On an A4 sheet create a square image of your work and in the white space below share your best Insta post with your 8 most appropriate hashtags and 2 sets hashtags #nailcompetition #pbnailcompetition. There will be two awards for this category: an online PUBLIC vote where the photo that’s most popular will win the Voters’ Choice Award. The professional competition judging team will score all images based on set judging criteria and scores and the traditional 1st , 2nd ,3rd placings will be awarded.

Online Public Vote: 14 – 24 September 2022
Catwalk Showcase
create 10 press ons/nail tips of nail appropriate sizes showcased in a box with a clear lid which may also be decorated. The tips should be wearable in a catwalk scenario. A4 portfolio (2 pages text and images only maximum (no brand names)) to be provided detailing a step by step of theme interpretation, products and skills used.

TEAM CHALLENGE CUP
The competition floor can be a tough place so working together as a team to practice and prepare and compete together on the day for support and camaraderie gives you a great opportunity to grow and develop with like-minded friends and colleagues. Gather a team of 4 nail professionals (any mix of competitor levels) and work towards highest accumulated placings score across the 2 days of competition to win the Team Challenge Cup.
The Team Challenge Cup is intended to encourage teamwork, personal development and mentorship with more experienced techs helping those newer to the nail or competition world.
We welcome teams from all brands, friendship groups, colleges or wherever you meet your nail buddies. Feel free to wear team uniform/colours etc so we all know who you are!

STUDENT & NAIL PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Becoming the overall winner and Champion across 2 days of competition is a fantastic achievement and has boosted some amazing careers, like nail industry icons Kirsty Meakin, Hazel Dixon and many more! Winning at this level is about dedication, consistency and practice, practice, practice!!
Enter the minimum number of categories for your level and you’ll be automatically entered into the Student or Nail Professional Championship! Entering a mix of on and off floor categories will give you the best chance of success! Accumulate points when you place (1st, 2nd or 3rd) and become the overall Champion for the competition. You’ve got to be in it to win it and if you win you will be awarded with a beautiful trophy that will look stunning as the centre piece to the other awards you achieved to win it.
