£2,344 is the average amount being lost by beauty salons every week as a direct result of the ongoing ban on face treatments due to coronavirus restrictions, according to Professional Beauty's #FaceValue survey.

As part of our #FaceValue campaign, Professional Beauty conducted research into the value of face treatments and the impact that the current restrictions are having on beauty businesses. The survey attracted a massive 2,902 responses, including a mix of beauty salons and self-employed beauty therapists.

The results have been turned into a series of infographics, which we are encouraging beauty professionals to download and share on their social channels to help spread the message that beauty is a valuable sector to the economy and must not be forgotten about in the lockdown-easing measures.

Similarly, for 78% of respondents, face treatments usually account for more than 50% of their appointments. For 24% of salons, these treatments account for more than 90% of appointments.

32% of beauty businesses remain completely closed due to the restrictions on face treatments, with 14% saying their business is 100% treatments on the face, and the other 18% that they can’t afford to reopen without offering these treatments

The face treatments that clients will be missing the most in are brow treatments – with 32% of salons, spas and mobile businesses saying this was their most popular face treatment service, followed by facials (25%), lash treatments (16%), facial waxing (5%) and make-up application (4%).

As we know, beauty is a female-dominated industry, with the majority of respondents (78%) stating that more than 90% of their employees are women.

The stats also revealed that 96% have made changes to their business to be able to perform treatments on the face in a Covid-secure way and 92% believe they should be allowed to offer face treatments to clients now and are safe to do so.
