First Welsh local authority spa set for Flintshire

The first local authority-run day spa in Wales has received the go ahead and will begin construction this month.

The spa is part of a £2.4m conversion planned for Flintshire's Deeside Leisure Centre.

The project will include a total revamp of thecentre with the first floor transformed from a nightclub and sports halls into a spa facility featuring a salt grotto, a herb sauna and an aroma room, plus a dance studio and a fitness suite.

The redevelopment plans have just got the green light from Flintshire County Council's executive committee, according to reports.

The council is working on the project with Alliance Leisure, a specialist company that partners local authorities to bring their leisure facilities up to date and improve their profitability. Alliance Leisure was behind one of the nation's pioneering local authority spas at Pendle Wavelengths in Lancashire in 2007.
