Freelance MUA opens exclusive Aveda salon and spa in Kent

Make-up artist Sarah Rumsey (pictured above) has opened an exclusive Aveda salon and spa, that also specialises in bridal make-up, in Sevenoaks, Kent.

The Peacock Rooms offers Aveda’s hair and spa services, as well as a bespoke range of bridal treatments. The Grade II-listed building is quirky in design and divided into definitive areas – hair, spa and beauty. The team consists of Rumsey (who will look after the bridal side of the business), one beauty therapist and two master stylists.

“Last year I was asked to be featured in an advertorial in Vogue magazine and that’s when I realised I needed to take my business to the next level. I had built up a successful mobile bridal business called Sarah Rumsey Make-up Artist within Kent but it was time to move it on,” said Rumsey.

“I approached Aveda about opening an exclusive salon because of my love for their products and mission, and they were keen because there was no Aveda salon in the Sevenoaks area.”

The Peacock Rooms is also an eco-salon, an ethos close to Rumsey’s heart: “My packaging is recyclable; my leaflets are recycled card with vegetable printed ink, and so on – I’m trying to be as eco-friendly as I can.” Rumsey used to be a nurse before training to become an MUA. She is also a qualified barber, having trained at The London School of Barbering.
