GSWS announces spa management mentorship programme

The Global Spa & Wellness Summit (GSWS) has announced the launch of an international spa management mentorship programme next year.

The six-month programme, which will run between January and June, will pair 15 spa directors from around the world with the same number of manager mentees.

The programme is part of the Global Spa Management Education Initiative, formed by a group of spa industry leaders at the 2012 GSWS in Aspen, Colorado, and will span 10 countries.

Following the completion of the pilot scheme, the GSWS plans to roll out the initiative more extensively in the second half of 2015, and in 2016.

The programme has been launched to address the lack of skilled spa managers and directors, following the rapid spa industry growth over the past few years.

Jean-Guy de Gabriac, director of the Mentorship Global Initiative Committee, said: “Spa management is a very challenging career that requires a broad mix of ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ skills, combined with a deep passion for people. This new programme is designed to give junior spa managers one-on-one, expert nurturing.”

Further details about the mentorship programme will be revealed at the third annual Spa Education Forum at the GSWS in Marrakech, Morocco, on September 10-12.
