Interview with Georgie Smedley

The Nail Harmony director talks about the latest innovations in nails, gives advice to salon owners and nail tech and unveils some new launches at PB North.

PB: What new ingredients and formulations are hot in nails at the moment?

GS: Everyone is going crazy for metallic’s at the moment.

PB: What are clients looking for from salons now? 

GS: New innovations, a speedy yet quality service that produces lasting results

PB: What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the pro market? 

GS: Market saturation. People have to work much harder to gain custom, plus they have so many brands to choose from, that they need to invest in the right brand which will support them.

PB: What should salon owners be doing to stay competitive?

GS: Regular training, this updates their knowledge on the latest trends and techniques, keeping them one step ahead of their competitors.

PB: What is the most common mistake you see therapists making?

GS: Lowering their prices! This will only attract the clients looking to pay next to nothing.

PB: What would be your one key piece of advice to therapists and salon owners to make their businesses more successful?

GS: To promote their services on social media, attract attention by entering competitions with PB and other suppliers, and generally raise their profile within the trade magazines.

PB: What’s your top tip for improving retail in salons?

GS: The tech needs to use all products they wish to sell during the service, and then advise the customer that they need those products!

PB: What is your most popular product and what do you think makes it popular?
