Ispa announces spa workforce study

The International Spa Association (Ispa) has announced the launch of a spa industry workforce study.

The first such research for Ispa, the study is “aimed at analysing the recruitment, retention and engagement of professionals in the spa sector”.

The announcement was made at the 2017 Ispa Conference & Expo, held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, USA.

Spa president Lynne McNees (left) said: “This workforce study will provide valuable insight into what motivates and influences employees within the spa industry.

“Assisting spas in filling vacancies and nurturing future spa professionals is a top priority for Ispa.”

According to the Ispa 2017 US Spa Industry Study there are currently around 33,00 available positions in the American spa sector. Of these vacancies just over half, 18,780, were for massage therapists.

The results of the study, which is sponsored by Red Door Spa, Accor Hotels and Resort Suite, will be presented next year, at the 2018 conference.

The 2017 event concluded in Las Vegas yesterday, October 18.
