Most mobile therapists work under 10 hours a week

The average mobile therapist works less than 10 hours a week, is aged between 30 and 39 and chooses this career path to fit in with family life, according to new research.

A mobile beauty career is most popular with women in their 30s, with 46% of mobiles falling into this age group, followed by 38% in their 20s and 15% in their 40s.

Some 41% of the London mobile therapists surveyed by online mobile therapy booking platform Glow said they chose this career because they could fit work around their family life, while 30% said it was because they wanted to become their own boss, 19% said the flexible working hours were the most important factor and 11% said they could get a higher income by going mobile.

Meanwhile, 37% said they work less than 10 hours a week, 30% work between 10 and 20 hours and just 4% work more than 40 hours, with 89% of mobiles saying they do not have a large enough customer base to turn away customers.

Manicures and pedicures (34%), tanning (28%) and waxing (15%) were found to be the most popular treatments, with one hour being the average booking time for the majority (45%) of mobiles, followed by 30 minutes (26%) then 90 minutes (23%).
