Oldham salon benefits from council’s Business Improvement Grant
Slender World, a salon in Lees, Oldham, was able to build new treatment rooms and extend its wet room area thanks to a grant from Oldham Council.
Salon owner Clare Rogers applied for the Business Improvement Grant – a sum of £100,000 created by local authority to support independent businesses in the area – to improve the salon and take on an apprentice therapist.
The grant is available to new and existing independent businesses for 50% of the capital costs up to £8,000. It can be used for exterior improvements of premises or an internal fit out if the applicant can demonstrate that it will either create jobs or help grow the business.
Rogers commented: “Our salon has been in Lees for many years providing a relaxing and pampering experience for our customers. I’ve wanted to give the business a makeover for a long time to enhance our offer.
“Without the Business Improvement Grant I would not have been able to afford the work that we’ve been able to carry out. With the extra facilities I’ve been able to employ a young apprentice and she has been great for the business. The grant has really given my business a boost and I’d urge others in the area to take advantage.”
Slender World has been open since 1989 and uses brands including Dermalogica, Mii and Fake Bake.
