One&Only resort coming to Malaysia’s Desaru Coast

A 128-acre beachfront One&Only resort is coming to the Desaru Coast in Malaysia as the brand continues to expand internationally.

Kerzner International, which manages a portfolio of destination resorts, hotels and residences, said the site, which doesn’t have a launch date yet, will include 42 suites, two luxury suites, an exclusive four-bedroom villa and 50 One&Only Private Homes available for purchase.

The on-site destination spa will focus on wellness, offering guests traditional and holistic practices fused with modern therapies, alongside a fitness centre with both indoor and outdoor spaces.

The resort will be inspired by the azure ocean waters and tropical landscape, showcasing the natural elements of the region. The company say One&Only will honour the country’s rich culture and traditions throughout the design and experience.

"As part of the continued strategic global growth of Kerzner International, Malaysia is the perfect location for the next One&Only resort and for the brand to enter Asia. We are proud to have been selected to operate the ultra-luxury resort on Desaru Coast as One&Only and we look forward to announcing an opening date in the near future,” said Michael Wale, chief executive officer of Kerzner International.

It will be designed by architectural firm Kerry Hill Architects, which has designed other properties within the One&Only collection, and is said to be putting an emphasis on privacy, creating “the ultimate getaway”.

Three restaurants, a mixology bar and beach club will also be part of the resort, alongside an array of outdoor spaces which can be transformed into areas perfect for private events.

This will be the first One&Only in Malaysia.

The One&Only Spa at Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley, Australia, took home the title of Hotel Spa of the Year: Asia & Australasia at the 2018 World Spa & Wellness Awards.
