Organic Beauty Weekend

Organic Beauty Weekend

After raising concerns about the legitimacy of some supposed ‘organic’ brands and products, the Soil Association is holding an Organic Beauty Weekend, as part of the Small Changes, Big Difference campaign. The event is running on September 7 and 8 across the UK, with salons and stores holding events, offers and discounts.

In the beauty industry, unlike in the food industry, there are no fixed regulations about what percentage of ingredients must be organic for the product to be labelled organic or natural. The Soil Association has concerns about many beauty brands misleading customers by labelling their products as organic, with some products containing ingredients which are banned in foods and in children’s toys. The aim of the weekend is to raise awareness of genuinely organic beauty brands - such as Pai, Neal’s Yard, and Pinks Boutique.

Kicking off the Organic Beauty Weekend, skincare and cosmetics brand Essential Care is hosting a Twitter chat about organic make-up and beauty. The chat will be from 7pm-9pm tonight (September 5), and you can join in by using the #organicbeauty hashtag.

To celebrate the weekend, many organic brands are giving discounts and offers at the online stores, with spas up and down the country offering free or discounted treatments. To find out what’s going on near you, visit the Organic Beauty Weekend page on the Soil Association’s website.
