Pinks Boutique to host Organic Beauty Festival

Natural and organic brand Pinks Boutique is to organise an organic Beauty Festival in September, to tie in with the Soil Association’s Organic September awareness month.

A host of spas, including the Potting Shed Spa in Batley, Eastthorpe Hall in Huddersfield and the spas at The Scarlet and Bedruthan hotels, both in Cornwall, have joined with Soil Association certified Pinks Boutique to participate in the festival – with more spas to be added over the coming months.

The festival will se participating spas focus on organic skincare throughout September, through measures such as educating clients about the characteristics and benefits of organic skincare, offering special organic treatment packages and giving complimentary organic skincare consultations. The festival aims to raise awareness of organic skincare and beauty products and make customers aware of the danger of products falsely labelled as organic.

Pinks Boutique founder Kirstie Sherriff said: “Unfortunately, there can be a world of difference between a beauty product that has been certified organic and one that is merely described as ‘organic’ on the label.” Sherriff advised spas and consumers to: “Look for the Soil Association symbol on the product before you buy.”

Peter Melchett, policy director of the Soil Association, said:“ “There is no doubt that many products claiming to be organic are misleading consumers. Under Soil Association standards, to use the word organic, the product must contain over 95% organic ingredients, excluding water.”

Melchett added that: “It’s wrong that people are putting chemicals found in antifreeze, paint, oven cleaner and floor cleaner on their skin, when they thought they were buying a product made from only natural or organic ingredients. This must stop.”
