Professional Beauty North declared a trade professional’s paradise

Over 15,000 professionals flocked to Manchester Central last weekend to discover hundreds of new product launches from the industry’s key brands and attend the extensive education programme.

A month earlier than last year, the show noticed a decline in student attendance but a rise in the number of trade buyers. According to many exhibitors, the quality of professionals rose with many well-informed and ready to make their key fourth quarter and festive purchases.

The education forum, an interactive meeting between colleges, was a sell-out event and ensured a strong representation from the college sector with 450 lecturers attending the show.

Plans for 2016

18-19 September 2016 will see a number of innovations:

UK Salon and Spa Awards

Each region in the UK will celebrate the best salon and spa with a glittering ceremony on Sunday 18th which will see the entrants competing in a bid to be crowned the winners in North East, North West, South East, South West, Midlands, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Hair Salon Professionals

Hair salon owners will be invited to see the best of beauty as well as become inspired by an extensive educational programme.

Skin is Alive

International speakers and interaction with leading brands in a new programme for salons, spas and therapists.

The above are just some of the developments focusing on genuine professional trade visitor focus.

Here's what they said:

Roy Cowley, managing director, 3D Lipo

"It has been the most successful Manchester show we have ever done. We had an amazing Sunday at the show and did fantastic sales. We totally smashed it."

Deborah Mitchell, chief executive, Heaven Skincare

"The business I did at this show was incredible - it was like attending two shows in one"

Sarah Deacon, national sales manager, Skinbrands

“We had a very good day, we had some very good leads for skincare"

Tracey Smith, director, Outback Organics

“We are pleased with the sales, the quality of people and the many new accounts that we’ve opened. One new client that we’ve taken on has 14 treatment rooms!”

Hayley Burrey, director, Burrey Aesthetics Distribution

“This year my team and I agreed it was a complete triumph - we can now look forward to months of fresh motivational sales and further growth to the business!”

Rachel de Caux, co-founder, Beauty Boulevard (Glitter Lips)

Bryan Christie, managing director, Megawhite

“We’ve had a record breaking show with B2B sales, which has topped any other PB or beauty show we’ve ever done!”

Richard Lipsitz, director, Biosculpture

"We had a good show. It’s a great chance for us to meet our customers face to face and for clients to meet all our regional educators. We have a new stand this year and we’re really happy with the way it looks."

Dean Nathanson, managing director, Caci International

"We’ve been very busy. Sunday was busy all day from start to finish for us, which shows that it’s a good quality of visitors coming through."

Nicola Melia, managing director, Chleo Enterprises

"It’s been a really good show for us. We’re very happy. Sunday was busy all day. For us, the most important thing was to meet people face to face and let them know we’ve taken over distribution for Art Deco and who we are and it’s been a good platform to do that. We ran a seminar programme and that’s been packed full and really well received."

Gemma Cafferkey, founder, Waxu

"We're really pleased we chose this show as our launch pad for Waxu. It’s been amazing, It’s exceeded all our expectations. We’ve been busy the whole time. The crowds to the stand were three-people deep at some points. We’ve had loads of interest and opened a lot of new accounts. The feedback’s been fantastic."

Gareth Price, managing director, Strip Distribution/Lycon

"It’s been good. We opened a few new big accounts which we are very happy about. We do feel we have to be at this show and we’ll be back next year."

Nicola Bassil, senior brand manager, OPI

"It’s been a busy show. We’ve had a steady stream of people, which is what you want, so you have time to talk to people properly. We’ve opened some good new accounts and we sold a lot of our bigger pieces like kits on the Monday, which was good"

Steven Rhys-Wells, creative director, Cuccio

"It’s been really busy both days for us. Manchester is always my favourite show. The second day has actually been more professional techs than the normal influx of students. Sales have been really good, especially the LED Hard Gel, it’s been flying off the shelves."

Annette Close, general manager, Australian Bodycare / KLM

"The Sunday was very busy for us. Overall we’re happy with how it’s gone."

Georgie Smedley, director, Nail Harmony / Gelish

"The spend was a lot higher so the quality of visitor was obviously good. We’re very happy with how it’s gone."

“The traffic was good quality and we saw a lot of existing customers which is always good for us.”

Kerrie Medlicott, marketing director, Simon Jersey

"The Professional Beauty Shows are always well run and well promoted, ensuring a smooth and successful event with plenty of eager customers. It’s an exhausting but hugely enjoyable two days!"

Rachel Harrison, marketing and events coordinator, Dermalogica

“Things are going really well. It was very busy yesterday and it looks like it will be busy again today."

Lizzie Norman, marketing executive, Elemis

“It’s been really, really good for us. Our new account mangers have been very busy and actually signed up more new accounts today. We’ve achieved above and beyond our retail target at the Manchester show!”

Laura Haywood, PR, events and content manager, HD Brows

“It’s been really good. The quality of leads has been even better than last year. And that’s what you want isn’t it? We’ve done well both in terms of new accounts and retail sales.”

Chris Taylor, director of business development, Eve Taylor

“It’s been really good. Professional Beauty North and Professional Beauty London are the only trade shows we do. We also sponsored the Education Forum this year and are very pleased with that. The turnout was really good and we got some great leads from it.”

Barry Hibbert, chief executive, AromaWorks

“It’s been a really, really good show. I think we’ve signed up about 200 new clients at this point, even more than in London. We expected it to be good, but not this good.”

Samuel Sweet, managing director, Sweet Squared

“It’s been really good and it’s allowed us to connect with people as well as sign new accounts, which is what a trade show should be about. There’s been lots of interest both in Moroccan Tan and Waxperts.”
