Salon sector set for growth this year
More than a quarter of UK salons plan to increase their staff base in 2013, according to the latest figures from hair and beauty supplier Salon Services.
The second annual Beautiful Britain report, released today, showed a positive outlook for the beauty industry, with growth in the number of full-time employees per salon and an increased frequency in visits for treatments such as facials, hair removal and manicures.
Some 26% of the survey’s 2,618 respondents said they planned to take on new staff in the next 12 months. Manicures are the most popular treatments among women, with waxing and hair removal proving most popular with men.
The male market has grown significantly in 2012, with more than half of the survey’s respondents recording an increase in male customers.
Lower salon prices have also helped to buoy the sector in a tough economic climate, with salons reporting the same or lower average prices in 2012 for all treatment sub-sector besides female facial skincare compared to 2011.
